Compakboard Agri Fibre Board

Compakboard agri-fibre board provides a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to MDF, chipboard and plasterboard (now designated hazardous waste). Available in various density’s and can be used in almost any situation where those materials would traditionally be used. Compakboard is ideal for panels and fixtures. It’s also available unfinished for manufacturers wishing to produce their own eco products. Compakboards are made from agri fibre waste which offers specific advantages and are better suited to certain applications.

We can also offer a range of specialist coatings and finishes to provide you with durable, high-quality panels and fixtures that are immediately ready for installation with no on site decoration required. 

All Compakboards and products undergo rigorous testing to confirm their strength and suitability for purpose. We have also ensured that they have been fully assessed under building control regulations and EU environmental standards. As a result, we have received independent verification of Compakboard’s suitability to replace MDF and / or plasterboard in almost any situation, and of our industry-leading green performance.

Compakboards are lightweight, strong and impact-resistant – and of course, made of 100% agri fibre waste. Its integral strength means it can easily hold the weight of shelves, pictures or radiators. With moisture and impact resistance as standard, Compakboard offers new levels of protection over and above standard MDF, chipboard or plasterboard.

Our Compakboard core is easily cut and routered, providing a wealth of possibilities for fixtures and fittings. This allows us to create not only sustainable wall panels but also sustainable fixtures such as counters, displays and reception desks.

The low energy manufacturing process mixes natural agri fibre (97%) with zero formaldehyde resin (3%) in a large hopper. The homogenous material is then heated and extruded, before pressure is applied to the composite material to produce a compressed rigid agri fibre board. We then take the raw board and carry out all machining, shaping, finishing etc making it suitable for a high quality building interior. When incorporated into our partitioning system, we can achieve half hour fire resistance, sound and impact resistance.

Compakboard is inherently strong and resists impacts. It can be used as an alternative to plasterboard (now a hazardous waste) and MDF, and in fact has similar integral strength benefits to MDF. It is comfortably able to withstand the weight of shelves, radiators etc. when being fixed into the board – something that cannot be easily done with plasterboard.

A Compakboard agri fibre board is 100% recyclable and biodegradable and does not incorporate any harmful substances such as formaldehydes or sulphates.

Finish options are limitless and include foil wrapping, melamine, laminate and water based spray applications. Application and finishes are limited only to your imagination!

Standard sizes are 12mm, 15mm & 18mm thick 2440 x 1220 mm sheets. However, a range of other sizes and thicknesses are available. Maximum length is 3600 x 1300 mm.


Compakboards are available in:

  • low density (300kg / m3 – 500kg / m3)
  • medium density (500kg / m3 – 650kg / m3)
  • high density (650kg / m3 – 750kg / m3)

Thickness ranging between 4 to 48 mm.

Weight and Load Bearing Ability

The weight and load bearing ability of Compakboards depends on their density. For comparison purposes, a 12.5mm thick Compakboard paper panel can hold up to 30kg on a single screw. This compares to just 3kg for standard plasterboard. Compakboard agri fibre boards can hold up to 60kg on a single screw.

Fire Resistance

Untreated Compakboards were tested for fire propagation in accordance with BS476 and showed nil flame spread. All Compakboards are deemed fire resistant for up to half an hour or 1 hour and Class 0 surface spread of flame as standard in other words, non-combustible. Our Compakboards, meanwhile, when treated with an additional fire resistant ingredient, can withstand fire for an hour. Compakboards meet England and Wales building regulations and British Standard requirements for a class 0 surface spread of flame.

Impact Resistance

Plasterboard is notoriously susceptible to impact damage. Any Compakboard product offers superior impact resistance to plasterboard, and our Compak high density agri fibre board is rated as offering “high” impact resistance, the same as MDF.
