Compakboards are manufactured using MDI polyurethane as a binding agent which produces a “Zero Formaldehyde” or “Formaldehyde Free” material. This means that Compakboards have emissions far below the strict E1 European low formaldehyde (LF) standard and the USA (HUD 24) standard. Compakboards are therefore suitable for specification in environmentally sensitive areas such as schools, nurseries, hospitals, public buildings, laboratories, museums and nursing homes, or any domestic application where the end user has concern for their living environment.

Problem Description

The Kyoto protocol has placed the CO2 issue high on the agenda. This for a better health & environment for us all. In the combustion process, hydrocarbons are converted into CO2, which as greenhouse gas is responsible for global heating. Switching from fossil fuels to biofuels does not reduce the amount of greenhouse gases, but compensates it by cultivating crops that absorb CO2. Wood and forests are strong CO2 sinks. If wood is not burned and thus given a long life cycle, the greenhouse gas is fixed over this long period. Wood and wood-derivative products therefore constitute an important step in the control of greenhouse gases. Public awareness of nature, environment and energy is a trend that can no longer be denied and one that will continue to receive a great deal of attention in the future. In housing construction, too, there is a growing trend towards the use of ecologically sound techniques. The choice for environmentally-friendly products and products that are not harmful to human health results inproperly insulated and ventilated houses with good air quality.

Solution

Compakboards with NO-Formaldehyde content. Our standard products invariably meet rigid E1 and the USA (HUD 24) standard for Formaldehyde emission. This particular characteristic is obtained through the use of special production techniques from the Compak System using a MDI polyurethane as a binding agent. In addition, CS Process Engineering Ltd has developed the technology that allows the recycling of agricultural residue fibres or wood (flake) in board material. In this way, a substantial amount of waste materials that would otherwise end up in various household waste incinerators, is not burned but actually recycled into new products. In addition, conversion to greenhouse gas can thus be avoided.

  • Roof elements: NO-Formaldehyde boards to long lengths;
  • Interior decoration: Compakboard agri fibre boards are suitable for specification in environmentally sensitive areas such as schools, nurseries, hospitals, public buildings, laboratories, museums and nursing homes, or any domestic application where the end user has concern for their living environment;
  • Flooring: load-bearing floor elements, with a formaldehyde content lower to that of natural wood.
